Fox News host Sean Hannity called on President Joe Biden and others involved in the US withdrawal from Afghanistan to step down.

"This is the worst self-inflicted foreign policy crisis in modern American history. One of the worst in history," Hannity said on Monday night. "Everyone involved should be fired … They all need to be held responsible for this unmitigated disaster. Yes, Joe Biden too, fired."

Hannity's remarks came after the last US military planes departed Kabul. Hannity said there were Americans still left in Afghanistan and leaving them behind put them in the "hands of terrorists," in reference to the Taliban.

He said the US should have withdrawn all Americans and allies, adding that allies that helped the US shouldn't "necessarily come here" but should be taken out of Afghanistan.

Earlier this month, Biden suggested extending the August 31 deadline to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan. In response, the Taliban, which took over the country, threatened "consequences" if foreign troops remained in the country past the deadline.

Not long after, Biden said the US would evacuate everyone by the deadline.

Evacuation efforts ramped up over the past week and on Monday, Biden said the more than 120,000 people were evacuated over the past 17 days.

The White House did not respond to Insider's request for comment at the time of publication.
